Here is a quick guide for performing self hypnosis.
It is important to prepare yourself for self hypnosis by having a goal in mind. Form a statement that sums-up your goal and make it into an affirmation. Use the first person and make the statement express your goal as though it were already a fact. "I am slim" or "I am my ideal weight", are two good examples.
When you are ready to enter self hypnosis go to a comfortable spot that is quiet. Use a chair or lie in a comfortable place. Take a deep breathe over a five second period and release it over another five seconds.
Now allow your eyes to close as you continue to breathe. Allow your thoughts to go where they want. Just observe them. It is time to relax your body. Begin at your toes and tense the muscles for a few seconds. Release the tension. Move up to your calves tensing and relaxing as before. Continue to perform this self hypnosis relaxation with very body group. Do not forget the muscles in your face.
After your self hypnosis tension and relaxation exercises are complete visualize a set of 10 stairs in front of you. As you climb down the stairs count backwards, in your mind, from 10 down to 1.
Once you reach the bottom step imagine there is a door a few feet away from you. As you open the door it leads to the most beautiful and tranquil place you have ever seen. This place could be a beach, forests, brook or whatever you want.
After you have found a good spot to rest in your mental scene begin to say, internally, your pre-written affirmation. The self hypnosis state will ensure that this affirmation enters the subconscious mind and becomes a program to be followed.
As an additional boost to your self hypnosis affirmation you should now make a mental picture of goal having been already accomplished. Try to generate positive emotions around your mental image. Although this may feel like a daydream it is reprogramming your mind at a very deep level.
After about 15 minutes you should leave the self hypnosis state. To do this simply count from 1 to 10 and start to become more aware of your physical surroundings.
That is all it takes to enter a self hypnosis state.
